Summer memories - in the back garden

***

A bit late like every year (but I am more than justified this time I guess!) here is the usual end of season post... probably more for me than for my readers, that are probably fed up by now of seeing lots of pictures of my garden, that, for an inexperienced or superficial eye, may seem all the same year after year!!! But for me it's very important indeed because it's a kind of diary where, year after year, summer after summer, I can check, very quickly, at a glance, all the little and huge progresses and changes that occur in this corner. And believe me... there are always lots of them!

Some changes were positive, like the introduction for the first time, of some Dahlias plants (that I decided to grow in pots protected by copper tape, after last year's huge failure against slugs and snails that had eaten my plants alive when I moved them to the flower beds) or the impressive growth of the Clematis on the shady fence on the right side of the garden, (which I will need to tame sooner rather than later otherwise it will get out of control ^_^)... other changes were negative, like the overwhelming growth of the various clematis on the trellis close to the shed, that overgrew on top of each other, entangled, making it impossible for me to prune them, and got into a big messy pile that couldn't even have space and airflow to flower, or on the other hand, the fact that I pruned too aggressively the beautiful stachys byzantina, which you often saw in the past pictures, below the wooden bird feeder, as it was taking over a bit too much area over the lawn, that resulted in the plant not regrowing at all this summer... what a shame (yes I make many mistakes...)

I have to admit that this past summer, due to lack of energy and time, I really neglected this beloved outdoor room. Besides regularly mowing the lawn (hubby's ONLY outdoor task!), water the plants in the few hot and dry periods, a bit of pruning where it was really badly needed and some anti pest treatment, I didn't do anything else. But all things considered, being this its 5th summer (do you remember when, after we started to take care of it after the extension made it a mess, it was like this, and then like this, and then after a year it was like this??? it seemed so different and so empty compared to now!) it's rather self-sufficient by now.

Even if lots of weeds took advantage of my lack of attention and got into any available space in the flower beds, even if some plants said the last goodbye, even if some others got a bit too vigorous instead, even if..... etc etc I enjoyed selecting some of the best pics taken from June until September and posting them in here to document all the little transformations of this place I love so much!
I'll be back very soon... the front garden is obviously jealous and waiting to be shown off as well ;)
