Winter Wonderland Advent Calendar

I have been missing for a long time on my blog... and actually today I was here for a bit of a technical boring post.. (if you are here for the pattern FAQ and don't fancy my ramblings, feel free to scroll down just below the last picture ^_^)so I just opened my blogger page and when trying to fix a minor issue (due to the fact my blog is very old and not up to date) I ended up messing the whole thing up (not sure how..) so now, despite me spending more than one hour trying to sort this out, I ended up with a blog without side columns and all weird and asymmetric... grrr so annoying you have no idea!
:(
Anyway, I don't have much time now because of all of that, so rather than complaining I'll go to the point, although I am so sorry for the way the blog is looking at the moment for all of you.
If you are following me on Instagram (the only online place I am regularly posting nowadays) you will already know last Christmas I designed and created an Advent Calendar for my little ones, that was a success for them, for me and for many of my virtual friends that follow my account.

***

It was created last year around the end of November (I am usually a last minute kind of girl.. but this time I definitely surpassed myself!).. I had been thinking of buying or making a calendar for weeks as my kids are now at an age where they can understand waiting and time, but couldn't find any idea that really made my heart flutter.
Then suddenly I remembered the Advent calendar a friend of mine had bought in the past: it was not handmade but it was a large felt panel with a classic green Christmas tree and some pockets below to hold the ornaments to hang on the tree day after day. I searched a lot for either a ready made or a pattern to make something like that, as I had since found out that this style of calendar is actually quite popular and there are many versions of it. But I couldn't find anything exciting or in my style.

***

Then... suddenly, there came the inspiration out of the blue:  making a Christmas a tree a bit different from the usual, a bit more fairytale like and a bit more nordic.. a bit more me.
A little snowy village and a naked tree ready to be dressed up with many colourful ornaments.
I then spent the following 3-4 days working literally non stop, days but mostly long long nights, and the panel was thankfully ready on the first day of December!
The ornaments though.. well they were only ready on paper.. but they were a long loooong work in progress along all December :)
The last few were ready just a few days before Christmas :)

I have been asked many times if I could make some to sell but unfortunately that is really impossible due to complete lack of time. I have also been asked many times if I could create a pattern for it, and that, totally unexpectedly for me too (as I thought it was a project too large and too complicated to be put on paper) was a request I managed to fulfil, so finally, after working on it on every childfree hour but mostly on evenings and nights for almost three months, this past weekend I realised the Winter Wonderland Advent Calendar pattern and it's now on sale in my Etsy shop.
It actually comes in different versions as I wanted to try to cater for all needs. So there is the complete Winter Wonderland Advent Calendar pattern  (here) and also the pattern for just the 24 ornaments (here) if you don't fancy the whole project plus some mini sets of 4 ornaments each in case you want to make just some of them.

Assolutamente no!

Purtroppo no!

 ***

All of this to explain the reason of this post in my neglected blog. I needed a place where to clarify some doubts and answer some questions I was asked in these days both by people who already purchased the patterns and by people who were interested in buying it.
And also because I would love to have a trace of that immense job that gave me so much satisfaction, here in my blog too :)

So.. let's get to the point:

- Is it a paper or a pdf pattern?
It's a pdf file, that you can download after the purchase and you can print at home. You can even decide to only print the actual templates pages and consult the instruction pages directly at the computer/tablet, but if you are like me, I usually prefer to have everything printed, but it's just personal preferences.

- Is the pattern available only in Italian or only in English?
It's available in both language and the two versions are in the same shop listing. As the pattern is a pdf file, after you purchase the listing you will have access to both the English or the Italian versions and you can  decide which one (or even both) to download.

- Can I buy only the instructions to make the felt decorations rather than the whole thing?
Sure, as explained above, you can buy the pattern for the whole project, or for just the 24 ornaments, or some mini sets of just 4 ornaments each. You can find all those patterns in my shop.

- Do you have a list of the names or brands of felt you used for this project?
Unfortunately no, and the reason is very simple, as I explained above, this was a project made at the very last minute just for me and my kids, with no intention whatsoever at that time to create a pattern. So I just picked up whatever I found in my craft room, some being old materials not available anymore. That's why you may notice that among my ornaments I have sometimes unintentionally used different shades of green felt or of nut brown felt and the reason is that I used old scraps and remnants of the felts I had at home.

- Can you tell me where I can find felt in those delicate and melange shades you used?
That I can do! At least in the UK, as that's where I live.
Most felts I have used (except for the old scraps and remnants mentioned above) were bought either on www.ebay.co.uk

or in these shops:

If you are not based in the UK unfortunately I cannot help you with names of shops but I can advise on a brand of felt I love that is National Nonwoven (I think it's from  the US but not sure) and that is what some of the shops mentioned above sell.

- Can I use fabric rather than felt for the ornaments?
Unfortunately no. That's because the ornaments are worked on their right sides (so they are sewn with their wrong sides together) so the raw edges are visible and that is fine with felt but not so much with fabric as the edges would fray.

There, these were some questions I have been recently asked but if more will come I will surely add to this list so they can be available to everyone.

I hope my post can be useful... I am sorry I am a bit in a rush.. as you know I love chatting a lot on my blog rather than using it as a technical info place... but I am sure the time for lovely chats will come back one day when my children will be a bit older.
In the meantime thank you so much for stopping by!
