A labour of love

E finalmente.. rieccomi...!

***

And eventually... I am back!
First of all, I am fine, we are fine, but weeks have literally been flying by... When in my last post I mentioned that I would have updated my blog with a more relaxed rhythm I definitely didn't mean once every two months O_O but.. at the end of the day I really didn't manage to find time for blogging :( And this makes me sad, both for all the lovely readers who follow me with affection, and also egoistically for myself as well, as I often love browsing through old posts and old pictures to live again happy times and happy memories. But now that I have officially started my maternity leave (at the end of the post you'll find some technical info) and that the most important things are all more or less sorted, I can finally try to happily come back on my blog too and tell you a little bit about how things are going and show you many things that have been waiting for a long time.

***

I started creating little things for our baby girl since the start of the pregnancy, but mostly as soon as I've been aware of the gender. In the last weeks then, since I closed my shop and I completed all the outstanding orders, I really went crazy and the craft room has never been busier than now.
Inspiration arrived like a storm and with it, the energy to make thousands of things, to make use of everything I have learnt so far in the craft world (almost as if everything would make perfect sense now, and as if I had been learning all these techniques during the years, mainly to load her with insane amounts of personalised pretty things created with love) and that brought me to create many many things (and many others are in progress these days)... that I hope to be able to slowly share with you.

***

But one of the first things I made for her, a real labour of love and patience, as only crocheted and knitted items can be, was this blanket.
I know I am boring, as the pattern is exactly the same as the one I used a year ago for a blanket I gave as a gift (see here), just with different colours and a slightly different edge. But honestly, why changing if I was so happy with the result last time?

***

I had fallen in love with this granny square and so I literally made a photocopy of the other blanket with the same number of squares, just making the edge a bit wider!

***

The blanket, as it always happens, required many weeks of work. But they have been beautiful weeks spent daydreaming, and working with the crochet hook helped me to keep my mental sanity in particularly anxious times, and kept me company during the long waiting before tests and medical appointments (plus was absolutely invaluable during the super boring two hours wait for the glucose tolerance test ^_^)

***

As soon as I completed it I started some other little knitted/crochet projects like hats, cardigans, softies.. etc, that I will show you soon, because I cannot really stay without a crochet hook or a knitting needle in my hands anymore, and the last projects completed in the last few weeks were these two little knitted characters.

***

I literally adore the bunny rattle!!! The result really exceeded my expectations and I am not sure how I managed to make the wrist ring look like a proper round ring!
While regarding the bear... well... let's say that he surely wouldn't win any bear beauty competition (the face is a mix between a koala and a bear, the legs are positively shorter than the arms, and some of my hand stitching is definitely quite ugly!) but is so cute and funny! And exactly because we make so much fun of him, Nicola says that he will probably become the real favourite of our little girl.. like it always happens.. we will see :)

Copertina a crochet

- filati usati: Debbie Bliss Eco Baby (colori: Baby pink 42, Blush 27, Stone 15, Pebble 26, Ecru 16)
- numero piastrelle: 63 (7x9)
- bordo: inventato da me ispirandomi a tante bellissime copertine viste su Pinterest:

Filati usati: Stylecraft cotton color Ecru

As usual I leave you some info about the patterns I used:

Crochet blanket

- granny square pattern: this one from Priscilla Hewitt
- yarn:  Debbie Bliss Eco Baby (colours: Baby pink 42, Blush 27, Stone 15, Pebble 26, Ecru 16)
- number of squares: 63 (7x9)
- yarn amount (I am not completely sure about them as I haven't kept much track unfortunately): I used approximately one 50gr yarn ball  for every colour and approximately 12 50gr balls for the cream
- final size: slightly more than 70x90cm (which is the recommended size for cot blankets)
- edge: I made it up myself after being inspired by many pretty ones I saw in Pinterest, and I did: five rows of double crochet (UK), one row of {treble crochet (UK)+ 1 chain}, skipping a chain space below every time, to create the lace effect, then other five rows of double crochet (UK) and then one row of scallops (there are many tutorial available in the web but I personally used this one in the past, but this time I used another one but can't remember how it was sorry..). I am sorry if my explanations are not very clear but I am not good enough to be able to explain well and to write crochet patterns.... I hope you can understand a little bit :)

Knitted bunny rattle

Found in the "Natural Nursery Knits" book by Erika Knight
(I quite love this book and many of its projects, so I highly recommend it, but I am pretty sure you can find plenty of similar rattles in Ravelry too)

Come accennavo piú sopra, volevo solo chiarire alcune cose tecniche/pratiche.

***

Well, I hope I managed to give you some cute ideas.. possibly for some special gifts or just to spend some relaxing hours knitting or crocheting.
As I mentioned above I just wanted to give you a couple of technical/practical info before closing the post.
As probably some of you already noticed my shop and my activity have recently paused as I officially entered maternity leave. Because I am officially and legally on maternity leave as a self employed I am not able to sell, accept any orders/payments and so I am also not able to sell my pdf patterns during this break. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. It's likely that, from the start of the new year, I will be able to legally have some isolated days of shop opening (probably one day a month or so) during which I will be able to sell some stock items and patterns. I will update you through the blog in the next months about this.
Finally another little note, again, some of you may have noticed that a few weeks ago I temporarily removed my contact details from my blog. I am sorry and please know that it's only a temporary thing, I don't plan on becoming an hermit ^_^  but I realised that I am really not able to answer to all the emails that have been waiting for more than two months (plus all the lovely comments you left me on my "big announcement" post) let alone, reading and answering any new one. I don't feel comfortable in receiving lovely emails and not being able to answer so that's why I chose to do so for now. I hope you will understand and I count on the fact (or at least I delude myself!) that things will get back to "almost normal" in a few months time...

Ok that's the end of the very boring part.. I'll be back soon (and I mean it!)... because I have many things that are waiting to be shared while I wait for the most special one who hopefully will arrive in a few weeks time and I hope she won't let us wait too long!!!

Ti voglio bene. Un caldo abbraccio ed un affettuoso saluto.
