Lake District - our wonderful hikes

Here I am finally with the first part of the diary from our trip to the Lake District. Today I want to talk to you about what usually is the main activity of people who visit this area, that let you get to know really well every nook and detail of this place. I will talk to you about our hikes, well I actually hope the pictures will talk for themselves, because as usual, there is not much point in adding too many words. Nature doesn't really need any comment nor introduction!

One of the reasons we chose this destination was actually the chance to have many walks and hikes as lately we got really passionate about this activity which is so good for both the body and the soul. So we equipped ourselves with many maps and walks books, mountain boots, fleece sweaters, lightweight wind-rainproof jackets and much longing to walk and explore.

We were really lucky: seven days without a single drop of rain, that really is something out of the ordinary in this region. This meant that we were able to have 1 or 2 hikes every single day, besides visiting some lovely villages, which I will talk to you about in my next post. Some days were kissed by a glorious sun, some very warm temperatures, not very typical there at this time of the year, and a very blue sky. Like the day we arrived by car and we got (literally) lost in the middle of tiny lanes and woods and pastures looking for our cottage that was really in the middle of nowhere. I remember that at every turn we were like "woooow" "look!" "ooohh so beautiful!" and we thought it was so gorgeous because of the warm September sun and the light it reflects. But actually in the slightly more grey and cloudy days we realised and discussed about the fact that the beauty around us was really not touched by that at all, and that really surprised us.

There is no point in listing all the hikes we had as they are so many and I don't know if any of them are available online, plus there are so many available in the books that if you will visit this area, whatever walk you choose, you can't really go wrong. But I wanted to mention the places I mostly fell in love with (and that is not an easy task as I loved basically everything) also as a reference for myself, in case, as I hope, I will visit this area again in the future...
Of course I need to mention Latterbarrow peak, that can be reached from many sides and different walks that always include a final climb that is quite steep and intense, but that rewards you with an amazing view over the lakes and villages.
Then, among our many hikes, I guess the two that stroke me most were one that was around Skelwith Bridge and around Loughrigg Tarn and one that was around Rydal Water and its surroundings.

So that's it... a collection of pictures, just a little selection among the many I took, to show you the Lake District as we lived it. Walking among wild heather and ferns, among Christmas tree growing fields and huge pastures with many sheep of all different kinds, among white cottages and low slate walls, and lakes that reflects the beautiful early autumn colours and forests that smell like like wood and resin.
We would go back there straight away if we could, and I know that sooner or later that will happen. It's just a few hours driving from where we live (and the happiness of going on holiday by car rather than by plane for once was amazing! without any problems of weight restrictions, baggage organisation, times and schedule to respect, late departures or cancellations etc... awww I was so so happy and excited!!!) and there is so much beauty to enjoy!
In the meantime I will travel again through my photos and I hope you can do the same and that you enjoyed these walks (they were not too tiring right?! ^_^) with us!
