***
At the end I couldn't really keep myself far from the crochet hooks for a long time... After my very first crochet blanket I was looking forwards to starting something else using this very addictive craft and so the birth of Adriana, the baby girl of my very dear friend which I had talked you about many times, was just spot on.
***
The lucky thing is that her mother has very similar tastes to mine, when talking about accessories, furniture, decor, clothes etc. (that also why we get along so well!) so it comes so easy and natural to make things for her baby as I know (or at least I hope) that she will probably like them!
I had been thinking about a crochet blanket as birth gift for a long time.. the problem is that the colour scheme of the nursery has been decided only during the last weeks so I couldn't start with my project until then!
***
At the end, after a few days to choose the yarn and the colours, and to order some sample, and after another few days to make some trials of colour combinations, I got off to a flying start.... really! I made this blanket in less than three weeks... quite a difference from the 4 months of my previous one (well, the dimensions are obviously different..).. yes it was quite in a rush, especially because the little princess was born one week ahead of schedule, so while her mum was in the delivery room I was making rows and rows of border like crazy to finish it and consign asap :)
***
But it was worth it and, despite the many imperfections and little errors (there are quite a few of them around!) I really love it! This time I bought more than enough yarn so I didn't have any problem at the end and I managed to create a pretty border as I wanted to! I have to admit that if I had another few days I would have made that border double the width, but I like it nevertheless... eventually I managed to make the scalloped edge which I really like and that I would have loved to have in my sofa blanket as well if I hadn't run out of yarn at that time!
***
The colours are the ones that her parents choose for the nursery, it will have light duck egg blue walls and all the fabrics and accessories will be pastel pink, duck egg, and white. So I mixed all these colours together and this lovely cuddle thing came out!
- filati usati: King Cole bamboo cotton DK (colori: Glacier 609, Dusty Pink 618, Oyster 543, Cream 538)
- numero piastrelle: 63 (7x9)
- bordo: inventato da me ispirandomi a tante bellissime copertine viste su Pinterest:

Finally a bit of technical info if anyone of you are inspired to try something like this!
- granny square pattern: this one from Priscilla Hewitt
- yarn: King Cole cotton bamboo DK (colours: Glacier 609, Dusty Pink 618, Oyster 543, Cream 538)
- number of squares: 63 (7x9)
- yarn amount: I used approximately half 100 gr yarn ball for every colour and approximately 6 100gr balls for the cream
- final size: slightly less than 70x90cm (which is the recommended size for cot blankets)
- edge: I made it up myself after being inspired by many pretty ones I saw in Pinterest, and I did: three rows of double crochet (UK), one row of {treble crochet (UK)+ 1 chain}, skipping a chain space below every time, to create the lace effect, then other 3 rows of double crochet (UK) and then one row of scallops (there are many tutorial available in the web but I personally used this one). I am sorry if my explanations are not very clear but I am not good enough to be able to explain well and to write crochet patterns.... I hope you can understand a little bit :)
Un abbraccio!

Just beautiful...

DeleteBeautiful blanket! I loved to make baby blankets because of the size. I like to finish a blanket quite fast otherwise I get bored with it and finally start a new one with new and undiscovered stitches or patterns and colours. I have three unfinished blankets lying around, working on them from time to time ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your friend. She must be so pleased with your wonderful gift. Nothing more meaningful than a selfmade handmade present, so precious.

ReplyDeleteRising healthcare expenses in developed nations have made it difficult for many people to seek the medical care they need. From 2011 to 2012, healthcare costs in the United States increased 3.7 percent, costing consumers $2.8 trillion, or $8,915 each person. Some analysts estimated the latest figures to be closer to $3.8 trillion with government spending at a whopping 17.9% of GDP. Australians spent $132.4 billion on healthcare, while people in the UK spent £24.85 billion. Government expenditure in both these countries sit at between 9-10% of GDP, which may seem more manageable compared to the US, however healthcare leaders in both these countries are taking a firm view of preventing any escalation of these percentages. With the high costs of health care around the world, many stakeholders wonder if introducing or adjusting copayments will produce better health outcomes. reife swinger
